Getting database records in an array

Hi Unix Gurus,
I am new to unix and perl/shell script. Can anybody guide me how i can get records from a database table in an array.

My requirement is :
From Unix script i have to read a column of a databse table and put those reocrds in an array.
Once i have a array list i have to manipulate with each array value in a loop.

Please help.
The code can be in any script. shell/perl.

Thanks
Rawat

For Perl, use DBI. Just search for "Perl DBI examples" and you will find some examples.

For instance this:

What format is the table? Chances are that you don't need to put it into an array, but can process it as you read the file. For example, if the file has tab-separated fields, and you want to do something with field 3:

Code:
awk -F "\t" '$3 > 22 { x[NR] = $3 }
                   END { for ( q in x ) print x[q] }' FILENAME
