Shell Programming and Scripting

Hi All,

I have a web page that is a cgi script running in the cgi-bin and the script calls informatica via the command line. The problem I have is that if there is an error in the informatica workflow then exit status of my command line call does not get populated and it seems like the page is still running informatica.

But if the informatica process exits without errors then the exit status of my command line call gets a zero and the web page terminates nicely.

I did a ps -ef to look at my informatica call and it has a parent id of the cgi script that invoked it.

the informatica call also spawns process the children have the id of the parent.

The last child seems to error in informatica.
The command line parent that spawned it loses it it's parent id pointing to the cgi script which in turn just hangs.

I tried putting the command line call in it's own shell script and executing that shell script from the cgi script then looping and doing a ps -ef on the children and if I don't find anymore children and the parent terminate the web page with alert box saying that it's finished running.

seems like that approach does not work as the cgi script seems to be waiting for the informatica to return some type of exit code.

any ideas ?

Figured it out I ran the process in the background then my cgi script started looping like a wanted it to and dumping out the status of the children to the web page.
