Create n number of files of size x

What is the best way to create 'n' number of files of size 'x'

lets say n and x are given as arguments to the program..

and lets say we can simply fill the files with 0s or *'s

Thanks !!

Code:
NUM=${1:-10}   ## default to 10 files
SIZE=${2:-666} ## default to 666 bytes
n=0
while [ $n -lt $NUM ]
do
  printf "%0${SIZE}d" 0 > "FILE$n"
  n=$(( $n + 1 ))
done

hey sorry I forgot to mention that I need this in perl.

Also, it would be awesome if someone can show me this: what I want is the file size is specified as bytes, KB, MB or GB.. for e.g: 1b, 1k, 1m, 1g

./create_files.pl -n 100 -s 300k <--- to create 100 files of size 300k Smilie
