cat problem

cat problem
Hello again;

I have a file in this format

./this is/first/1
./this is/second/2
./this is/third/3

and i am using this file in a for loop with cat command like this

for i in `cat directory.txt`
do
..........
done

Bu there is a problem because my directory is "this is" but "cat" sees "this" and "is" seperately.

Can i fix it?

This /usr/sbin/for has this problem. You can fix this using /usr/xpg4/bin/for or

while read line < cat filename
do
echo $line
done

this would print entire line. but if you use for it would print all words with new lines.

You dont need a cat really! Smilie

it works fine but this time there is another problem with du Smilie

du: cannot access `./this': No such file or directory
du: cannot access `is/first/1': No such file or directory

Use "quotes" wherever there is space.
