This is how my input file is .

I am trying the following :
/[[#][0-9][.][0-9][.][0-9]/
{
if ((/#4.4.6/) || (/#5.1.1/) || (/#5.2.2/) || (/#4.2.2/) || (/#5.2.1/))
{ valid_rec++; }
else
{invalid_rec++; }
}
But this is not giving me the correct count. invalid_rec is incremented for every word.
Increment must happen for every line.
Please guide.
I want the valid_rec = 1 and invalid_rec = 1. How do I achieve this with awk ?

This is still counting words instead of the lines where the matched words are found.

I got valid record as one and invalid record as one with your sample data.Can you post some more sample data?
