problem with IFS

hi perderabo,

you pls try echo "$IFS" instead of echo IFS="$IFS".

bash-3.00$ echo "$IFS"

Same deal. Fails without quotes. Works with quotes.

Ok,Now i agree with u.

Butttt one more doubt is ,IFS is an internal variable like HOME,LOGNAME etc.
Right?
The following commands works fine (Without Qoutes)
echo $HOME
echo $LOGNAME.

In the same way echo $IFS(no quotes) should work na?

any idea?

IFS is a list of field separators. They get discarded when args are scanned.
