Question Shell alternative for setlocale()

Hi all
Is there any way I could set "locale" variables other than writing a C-program using the "setlocale" function? IŽd like to be able to set it from a shell script.

Cheers

Code:
           LC_CTYPE="fr_FR.iso88591"
           LC_COLLATE=C
           LC_MONETARY="fr_FR.iso88591"
           LC_NUMERIC="fr_FR.iso88591"
           LC_TIME="fr_FR.iso88591"
           LC_MESSAGES="fr_FR.iso88591"

sets the locale for French on my machine, for the given process.
You can use LC_ALL when you want all of the locale settings to be the same.

Thanks for your response!

One last question though Smilie Do you know where the global settings of these locale variables are being held? I'm talking about the values given by the locale command.

The global values are held on a per-process basis in those same LC variables.
There is no central repository in the kernel for them.

If you want everyone on the system to have the same setting, then you have to change /etc/profile (or whatever global profile your system has)

The locale command simply displays those "settings".

locale -a shows all of the available settings on your system. You create/install new ones using localedef.
