MySQL How to declare hashes in KSH similar to Perl ?
Hi,
Is it possible to delcare hashes in KSH the way we do it in Perl.
Like I want to declare something like:

fruits['Orange']="Juicy"
fruits['Apple']="healthy"
fruits['Grapes']="sour"

echo fruits['Orange']

Ofcourse this piece of code does not work in KSH. Please let me know if there is a way of doing it in KSH.

Sort of...
Code:
integer Apple=1
integer Orange=2
integer Grape=3

fruits[Apple]="Healthy"
fruits[Orange]="Juicy"
fruits[Grape]="Sour"

echo ${fruits[Apple]}
echo ${fruits[Orange]}
echo ${fruits[Grape]}

Note: This is for ksh88. Ksh93 has associative arrays, making the mapping of integers to variable names unnecessary.

My intention was to be able to pass a string/text as the key and fetch the value for it.
But Yes the option you suggested does make my code more readable. Thanks for your time.
