Java shell variable limit
Hi,

I have a shell script which has a variable that adds up two numbers in iteration. something like:

for
do
total_value=`expr $total_value + $value`
done


and my total_value, it comes in the range of 276580000500. Since its a huge number that variable fails to hold tht value aAnd inturn after a paricular value,the addition fails.

can you please suggest a way out for this using shell scripting itself?

I'm using HP-UX 11.0

Is there a limit to the no. of arguments to a shell script ?

What is the maximum no. of arguments that could be passed to a shell script ? Is there any restriction ? I've a requirement where I need to pass a list of names to a unix script and I guess the number of such names is not a fixed one. It can run into hundreds. Is this feasible ? (4 Replies)
