Add Lines in middle of file

I need to add a new lines with certain data, to an existing file, every 5 lines in the file.
There is no way to find any distinct charater pattern so
I will have to do a line count and then insert the new line.
I think using awk or sed is what I need to do.
Any help is appreciated.

the following code will insert content at every 5th line.
Code:
awk ' {if ((NR%5)==0) print "line to be printed\n" $0; else print $0;}' < data > out

where data is the file which holds the data
and output of this operation will be in file named out

Great start

Thanks for the quick response.
This will give me a good start. I have a header to deal with,
and then the records start.
I have to add the line before the records and then every 5 records.

kunder.
