ftp mdel help

Hello Y'all,

Need help on ftp...

I want to mdel files on a ftp server where the search is based on a file on the local UNIX box.

Example:

Files on ftp server:

dly1111.txt
dly2222.txt
dly3333.txt
dly4444.txt

Text in the local file:
dly1111
dly3333

I need the ftp commands that I can use so that I should be deleting only dly1111.txt and dly3333.txt from the ftp server.

Do I need to write a ksh for it or is it possible by some ftp commands???

Plz help!

I take it you mean you have a local file that has parts of filenames. You want to delete the files it references, only on the remote box.
Code:
#!/bin/ksh
echo "
verbose
open somenode
USER username password
`awk '{print "del", $0 ".txt" } ' local_file`
bye
" | ftp -n
