Edit mktemp file

If I create this random named file, how would I edit it within the script with say Geany?

Code:
mktemp XXXXXXXX.txt

The mktemp utility requires that the X's be specified as the last characters of the template.
You could try something like this, which you can then adjust to your need:

Code:
# Create a temporary file according to template /tmp/file.XXXXXXXX
# And store its name in the shell variable "tmpfile"
tmpfile=$(mktemp /tmp/file.XXXXXXXX) || exit 1
echo "Editing file ${tmpfile}"
geany "$tmpfile"
