Need help on awk or sed

Hi,

I am having variable like below
Code:
var=xms@milano:z1

I need to exchange the fields after '@' like "z1-milano"..Finally i need a output like "xms@z1-milano"

I tried by using tr and cut command and its working fine..But i need it as single line command by using awk or sed

TIA

What have you tried to solve this problem on your own?

Is this a homework assignment?

What operating system AND shell are you using?

If you have a string in a variable and you want to modify that string to produce another string in another variable, why not just use variable expansions in the shell? They are a lot faster than invoking another process to run awk or sed.

Why does it have to be a 1-liner?

Hi,

This is not an homework assignment..In my own script i wanted to do this.
OS=Sol11

I tried by using the below, I feel some better way is there to do the same
Code:
var=xms@milano:z1
inst_user=`echo $var | cut -d "@" -f1`
inst_zone=`echo $var | cut -d "@" -f2`
inst_zoneno=`echo $inst_zone | cut -d ":" -f2`
inst_ser=`echo $inst_zone | cut -d ":" -f1`
inst_real=`echo "$inst_user@$inst_zoneno-$inst_ser"`

TIA

I believe the default shell on a Solaris 11 system is a Korn shell, so the following should work as long as you are NOT using a csh derivative. It will certainly work with /usr/xpg4/bin/sh:
Code:
var=${1:-"mxs@milano:z1"}
printf ' Input: "%s"\n' "$var"
inst_user=${var%@*}
inst_zone=${var#*@}
inst_zoneno=${inst_zone#*:}
inst_ser=${inst_zone%:*}
inst_real=$inst_user@$inst_zoneno-$inst_ser
printf 'Output: "%s"\n' "$inst_real"

If you invoke this script with no arguments, it produces the output:
Code:
 Input: "mxs@milano:z1"
Output: "mxs@z1-milano"

If you invoke this script with the operand dwc@SanJose:z95124 it produces the output:
Code:
 Input: "dwc@SanJose:z95124"
Output: "dwc@z95124-SanJose"

With any POSIX conforming shell, the above could also be done with:
Code:
var=${1:-"mxs@milano:z1"}
printf ' Input: "%s"\n' "$var"
IFS="@:" read inst_user inst_ser inst_zoneno <<-EOF
	$(printf '%s\n' "$var")
EOF
inst_real=$inst_user@$inst_zoneno-$inst_ser
printf 'Output: "%s"\n' "$inst_real"

And, with ksh (but not with bash), you could also use:
Code:
var=${1:-"mxs@milano:z1"}
printf ' Input: "%s"\n' "$var"
printf '%s\n' "$var" | IFS="@:" read inst_user inst_ser inst_zoneno
inst_real=$inst_user@$inst_zoneno-$inst_ser
printf 'Output: "%s"\n' "$inst_real"
