Please show us the sed command you're using to try to remove a "forward shash". (Is that supposed to be forward slash?) If you're using a sed substitute command and the separator you use delimit the RE and the replacement text is in the RE, the delimiter character has to be escaped in the RE.

For example:

sed 's////' file

can't be used to remove a /, but either of the following will work:

sed 's/\///' file
sed 's#/##' file

# 23
