grep -v kernel

Question grep -v kernel
Hi ,

"grep -v kernel"

can anyone explain the meaning/purpose of the above mentioned command ...

why are we using "kernel" field with grep command.

ignore line with the pattern
first do 'man grep' and check what -v stands for.

thanks for the reply ..

-v used with grep prints everything except the pattern for which we are searching.

But what i am looking for is use of "kernel" with 'grep' which is not available in the man pages and i am not getting any viable description on net too of it's usage.

post entire command
'kernel' is a pattern here. The purpose of the grep here is to select lines which doesnot have 'kernel' in it.
You should post the entire command line for us to understand.

Kernel panic - not syncing: cannot execute a PAE-enabled kernel on PAE-less CPU

ok so I just installed fedora core 6 on my dell inspiron 700m and I go to boot into linux and I get this error. Has anyone seen this before?
