Extarcting particular fields from a file
Hi,
I have a file called status.txt
Now that file has got fields and values like this:

Owner Workitem progress targetdate
Peter Development 50% 26/04/2006

Now I have one more file called status1.txt that has got only the field names:

Owner Workitem progress targetdate

I want to copy the values of these fields from the file status.txt to status1.txt.

How can I do this.

The fields look the same. You only need to populate the values.

How about this ?

Hi,
Thats fine. What if I have one more file named status2.txt and that file has also got same fields with values. What should I do to just append those values to the fields in status.txt file.

In the awk below I am trying to add a penalty to a score to each matching $1 in file2 based on the sum of $3+$4 (variable TL) from file1.
