How to parse a file?

Hi guys
I have a very long file which looks like this:
Code:
y893
89:send prctmgr exit
106:bas_services_dwn
--------------------------------------------------
y895
90:send prctmgr exit
106:bas_services_dwn
--------------------------------------------------
y897
90:send prctmgr exit
106:bas_services_dwn
--------------------------------------------------
y907
92:bas_services_dwn
98:send prctmgr exit
--------------------------------------------------
y913
170:send prctmgr exit
286:bas_services_dwn

etc....

Is there a way for me to read this file sequentially and put the entry between the dotted line into a separate file, so it would contain just one entry similar to this :
Code:
--------------------------------------------------
y963
103:send prctmgr exit
139:bas_services_dwn
--------------------------------------------------

Thanks a lot for any advice ...

Any attempts/ideas/thoughts from your side?

Do you need the (non-existing) dash line in front of the first and after the last record? Should every record go to a file of its own? Which file name?

split -p could be an option, if you can live with how it distributes the pattern lines. And if your split has the -p option.

Sorry about the missing tags.

Hi aoussenko,
We have helped you with more than 120 questions you have asked in threads you have started. We would expect by now that you would show us what you have tried on your own to solve this problem (as requested by RudiC in post #2 in this thread). We are not here to act as your unpaid programming staff. We are here to help you learn how to do things on your own.

We would also expect that by now you know that you are likely to get help that will work better for you if you tell us what operating system and shell you're using when you start a new thread like this.

And, since you already have received five infractions for failing to use CODE tags, it is very disappointing that a moderator had to edit your 1st post in this thread to add CODE tags for you again.

Please:
  1. review the forum rules to which you agreed when you joined this forum,
  2. tell us the name of your input file,
  3. tell us the names you want for the output files you want to produce,
  4. show us exactly what output (filenames and contents) you would like to have produced from the sample input you showed us in post #1 in this thread (in CODE tags),
  5. tell us what operating system you're using, and
  6. tell us what shell you're using.
