Is there something you're trying to do other than just print fields 6, 7, and 8 from the 1st line of a file?

What have you tried to solve this problem on your own?

Why do you require using awk for this?

fields keep on changing , i am looking between
|0 and before third occurrence of |it could be anything

I could make lots of wild guesses at what your requirements might be. But, I don't like playing guessing games when I'm writing software.

If you would like to make an effort to describe the format of the various types of input files you might be processing and describe how to recognize the fields within those files that you want to extract, we can probably suggest something that will work. If you aren't willing to do that, any suggestions we might make are highly unlikely to do what you want them to (other than for the grossly over-simplified example you provided in post #1 in this thread).
