Multiple arrays in variable using for loop

Hi,

I'm trying to get the number of files inside same kind of folders on each disks and assigning each values in to a variable named with same folder and disk name so that it'll be easy for me to identify each time.But somehow I'm not able to assign those values in that specific name variable which has both folder and disk name in it.

Code:
for i in {1..4}
do
for j in a b c
do

fileno_[$j]_[$i}= $(ls -l /$j/$i |wc -l)
echo "fileno_[$j]_[$i]"
done
done

You can't do that. Disregarding your syntax errors, shells - at least the ones I know of - don't provide such "dynamic variable definitions", and neither do they have multi-dimensional arrays.

Try one-dimensional (associative) arrays with an index constructed from two values.
