Need help on awk

Hi,

when i run the below command locally am getting correct output.

Code:
ls -l | awk -v s1="username" '{if ( $3 == s1 ) print $9}'

output:

Code:
MP1
test

But,when I use the same command with ssh, like below

Code:
ssh loginname@hostname ls -l | awk -v s1="username" '{if ( $3 == s1 ) print $9}'

I am getting output as null..

where am i doing wrong..

Hello Sumanthsv,

You haven't mentioned the O.S which you are using, I have tried the same command mentioned by you into bash and it worked successfully for me. Could you please try to escape \"username\" and let us know how it goes then(Though I haven't tested it).

Hello Sumanthsv,

Not sure if you changed username to root as follows while running the code.

 ssh loginname@hostname ls -l | awk -v s1="root" '{if ( $3 == s1 ) print $9}'

Please confirm the same if you had used above.

You are searching for an owner of literally 'username' which none of your files has, so an empty output is fine. Change the owner to be searched for to 'root' as RavinderSingh13 proposed and it should fly.
