That is NOT the original command's output - you have modified something.

Difficult to believe - it actually DOES search for the full contents of the name variable.

Note that there is a HUGE difference between the results you get from the commands:

read name

(as shown in post #1 in this thread) when you type Destiny Cat in response to the prompt (which sets the shell variable name to the string Destiny Cat and what you get from the command:

name=Destiny Cat

(as shown in post #5 in this thread) which sets the environment variable name to the string Destiny in the environment for the command Cat which either errors out with something like Cat not found. or runs Cat and the rest of the script runs with whatever value had been assigned to name before running Cat.
