Unable to zip the files

I am getting below error:

Code:
zip error: Nothing to do! (try: zip -rq <zip_name> . -i <file_list>)

Code:
if ( ! $_2_zip_dirs eq "" ) {

             $OS->print ("$zip -rq $zip2 $_2_zip_dirs\n");
             $OS->execute ("$zip -rq $zip2 $_2_zip_dirs");
             if ( ! -e  $zip2 ) {
                     $OS->FATAL("couldn't create $zip2.  !$\n");
             }
             foreach my $dir ( split /\s/, $2_zip_dirs) {
                      $OS->print ( "rm -rf $stage_loc/$dir\n" );
                      $OS->execute ( "rm -rf $stage_loc/$dir" );
             }

           }

           $OS->print ("$zip -rq $zip1 $maindir\n");
           $OS->execute ("$zip -rq $zip1 $maindir");
           if ( ! -e  $zip1 ) {
                   $OS->FATAL("couldn't create $zip1.  !$\n");
           }

I am getting below exact error:

Code:
zip error: Nothing to do! (try: zip -rq /ade/ambagraw_dev2/prod/maindir/<zip_name>.zip . -i <file_list_name>)
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /ade/ambagraw_dev2/comp/intg/file.pm line 3289.
FATAL: couldn't create /ade/ambagraw_dev2/comp/maindir/<zip_name>.zip.  !n

In Perl these are the rules to create variable names:
Quote:
  • The variable should always start with a non numeric, non symbolic character [ A to Z and _ ]
  • Variable can only contain a to z, 0 to 9 and _ (underscore) characters.
  • Variable names cannot contain special symbols (it includes '-' symbol ).
Therefore, this is not valid in your code.
Code:
$2_zip_dirs

You can find it here in your code:
Code:
foreach my $dir ( split /\s/, $2_zip_dirs) {
