Replace first column in 17GB File

I question the wisdom of having files of 17GB size, but that's not here or there.
The intention of post #2 was to point out the facts with such a large file size, thus explicitly doing the redirection to temporal file. Further more, an inexperienced sed user might believe in the magic of not needing a temporary file, even when it is happening behind the scene; impression which I did not want to give.
I have not done a strace or find out what happens if sed command with -i fails due to such a large size. Is there the possibility of original file corruption or partial truncation? To avoid that, I proposed the safest route I thought of.

how to unzip 17GB .zip file on UNIX?

I have a .zip file of size 17GB on Linux. As per my knowledge unzip(before 6.X version) doesn't work with file size greater than 4GB. I tried my best to uncompress it but didn't successed. db2_field_name - Returns the name of the column in the result set

SYNOPSIS

       string db2_field_name (resource	$stmt, mixed  $column)

DESCRIPTION

	Returns the name of the specified column in the result set.

PARAMETERS

	      o $stmt
		- Specifies a statement resource containing a result set.

	      o $column
		-  Specifies  the  column in the result set. This can either be an integer representing the 0-indexed position of the column, or a
		string containing the name of the column.

RETURN VALUES

	Returns a string containing the name of the specified column. If the specified column does not exist in the result set,  db2_field_name(3)
       returns FALSE.
