I'm new to scripting in bash, just didn't see that semicolon.

Here awk is smarter than sed. For example
Code:
awk '/<\/body>/ {p=0} p==1; /<body>/ {p=1}' htmlfile

Your find certainly wants the *.htm be files, too. You need brackets
Code:
find "$1" -type f \( -name "*.html" -o -name "*.htm" \) |

Why exec sh -c , why run $filename as a command?
Shouldn't it be (with awk)
Code:
awk '/<\/body>/ {p=0} p==1; /<body>/ {p=1}' "$filename" > "$filename"_nobody
