The backticks do a command substitution, so the shell tries to run the result of the expansion of * adorned with the rest around it. Why do you use those backticks?

yea true. I need value of the
Code:
 \'*\'${date}*

Basically it searches for a particular date, file in the directory.
I know the files will be quoted. Hence the back slash to escape the quotes.
Now lets say the above command gives a file name like
Code:
 'ABCCDT20513'13May06:03:45

Now this value i need which the command statement
Code:
 \'*\'${date}*

holds.
Hence for that value i use the back ticks.

The value is dynamic, so file name will keep on changing.

What "command statement"? What you show us is just a sequence of string elements, shell wildcards, and a variable to be expanded. This definitely works without backticks. Should you expect any white space in the concatenation, enclose it in double quotes.

By command statement I meant

 \'*\'${date}*

.
Sorry for the confusion.
And there r no spaces but single quotes so the back slash to escape them..
