Variable in awk substituion

I have a file with 20 blank spaces.

I want to substitute each blank space for a string, and part of that string should include an incremental number [0 for first substitution, 19 for last]

Code

Code:
while read line3
do
                awk -v var=${line3} '{i=var; sub("^[[:blank:]]*$", "\\&\n@target G0.S"'$i'"\n@type xy"); print $0}' bla6 > bla7
                mv bla7 bla6
done<file3

Everything works except the incremental string value.

Help please!

Not sure I understand what you're trying to achieve. Please show the input files and the desired output.
For certain the (single) quotation around the $i can't work.
