hot to assign output to a variable

I want to assign a comment to a veriable
for example my program
head -1 myfile
I want to assıgn output to a variable
# 2

Depends on shell... but for sh/ksh/bash

variable=`head -1 myfile`

ksh and bash support
variable=$( head -1 myfile )
