I want to use getopts in ksh scripting to obtain multiple values

currently im using

while getopts vt: opt
do
    case "$opt" in
        -v)     vn=$OPTARG;;
        -t)     tn="$OPTARG";;

Is this a homework assignment?

You have told getopts that the -v option does not have an option-argument. What do you mean by "I want to use getopts in ksh scripting to obtain multiple values"? Are you trying to accumulate multiple values supplied as option-arguments to multiple occurrences of the -t option? Show us the SYNOPSIS for the utility whose options you're trying to parse.

When you say "variables vn tn don't store any values", what command line did you use with your sample code? Your script doesn't produce any output. How do you know no values were stored?

Modern versions of ksh have a builtin getopts with a richer set of functionality.

Invoke:
Code:
getopts --man

To see the ksh manpage for the built-in getopts

Or, if you wish to see the manpage as HTML, invoke:
Code:
getopts --html
