Wget script to simulate real user visits

so i'm using the following script to attempt to simulate a user visiting a page but unfortunately, it doesn't look like this is working:
Code:
wget -nv -r "http://www.mywebsite.com"

does anyone have a better idea of how to do this? the goal here is to run a wget command from a linux host to a website and have that traffic (or hit) register in the apache/http logs of the website.

Are you trying to do load simulation? Try Apache Jmeter and Grinder. Both are open source. Grinder requires Jython. Grinder lets you script exactly what you would type or click on as a user. Jmeter does metrics.

no. i just want to be able to crawl a website from a linux command line without having to use any tool that's unnatural to the linux/unix system.

that's why i was attempting to use wget. i understand that wget may be able to do this. i think cookies might need to be involved here somehow.

Moderator's Comments:
Mod Comment Posting "Does not work" without explanation does not help you or anyone. If a command does not work for you, please show the exact circumstances you used it, and the exact error or malfunction you received. Do not paraphrase errors, or post the text as links, images, or attachments if you can avoid it: Paste the exact message, in code tags, like [code] text [/code] or by selecting the text and using the Image button.

Thank you.

In what way does it not do what you expect?

Do its requests truly not appear in apache's logs? That would be bizarre.
