FTP--some method wherein password need not be harcoded

I am trying to FTP a file to a remote server and am able to do so but for that i need to hard-code the password in the script. Is there some other way that i can do the same task?

two ways...
1)use a configuration file, and read the password from this file in your ftp script
2)pass the password as a command line parameter while invoking the ftp script

hope this helps you,
Gaurav
