Cutting pattern from source file

hi gurus,

I want to cut a selected pattern from the source file

For example
Code:
 <operation >
 Update
 Update
 Update
 <operation>

I want to select the three lines having update and the one above <operation> to be cut from source file and paste it to another

As of now i have tried the following -

copying the pattern from the source file and the line above to another using
Code:
 grep -B1 'Update' File1.txt > File2.txt

however im not able to delete the same from source as it can have the label <operation> more than once.

so simply i want to cut what i have selected in my source file

Code:
awk '$0~M && P=!(P+0) {next} P' M="<operation *>" P=1 inputfile

The M="whatever" is where the matching pattern is defined. It is a regular expression.
