Newline in the file
I have requirement to remove the /n ( newline ) characters from the file.

When I open file in VI .. I want to see newline char

how to display newline char .. or where can I see the content with newline char visible?

when in vi, type ':se list'.
The '$' at the end of the lines are 'new-lines'.

The way to remove all newline characters from a file is:

tr -d '\n' file > file.$$ && cp file.$$ file && rm file.$$

Text editors (e.g. vi) process text files. After you remove the newlines, you no longer have a text file.

It is a bad idea to destroy your originals.

My source file is pipe delimeted file with 53 fields.In 33 rd column i am getting mutlple new line characters,dule to that record is breaking into multiple records.
