help in string search

I am running a command line that I need to grep status of a job

job| tail -2 | head -1 | awk '{print $4,$5,$6}' | egrep "RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH"

The above gives me follows:

02/03/2006 13:25 SU

Now from here i need just the status which is "SU" and i can get it using a further sed as follows:

job | tail -2 | head -1 | awk '{print $4,$5,$6}' | egrep "RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH" | sed -e 's/^.[0-9]*\/[0-9]*\/[0-9]* [0-9]*\:[0-9]* //'

This gives me SU

The problem i run into is when a job status is different the position of this status changes. like when a job is running it will show me following :

----- RU 14446609/1

Now here's where i cant use that sed

Is there a way to parse the status different statuses being (RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH) in any given position on command line..

Your help is much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance

is that 'when a job is running' OR not running?
either way, post BOTH alternative lines.

vgersh99 thanks for helping first of all. However issue is still the same when the job in in SU and no feilds are blank it works, however when job is running it doesnt. For example

job2 | tail -2 | head -1 | nawk '/RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH/ {print (NF==3) ? $2 : $6}'

returns following

14447115/1

Here job2 is giving:

Job Name Last Start Last End ST Run Pri/Xit
____________________________ ________________ ________________ __ _______ ___

FILE_AFTERNOON_RUN 02/01/2006 15:15 ----- RU 14447115/1

but when a job is in Success it works.

job | tail -2 | head -1 | nawk '/RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH/ {print (NF==3) ? $2 : $6}'

SU

Let me know if this can be done in any other manner..

Code:
job2 | tail -2 | head -1 | nawk '/RU|ST|TE|FA|SU|OI|AC|OH/ {print (NF==6) ? $5 : $6}'
