Read the lines from the file in batch
Hi,
I want to read lines in a loop.
eg.
In a file with 100 lines..first I want to read first 1 to 10 lines and redirect it
to other file, then next 10 lines ( 11 to 20 ) and redirect it to the file ...
.till end of file.
I am not sure how to achieve this.Need help.

Sounds like a homework problem. If so ignore the following since there are rules against posting homework: Smilie

Scads of possibilities exist for this; here's one simplistic way:

x=1
while read LINE
do
    [[ $x -le 10 ]] && echo $LINE >> outputfile1 || echo $LINE >> outputfile2
    (( x += 1 ))
done < yourinputfile

# 3

the best way is to use the split command which is available in unix unless you are processing these 10 lines before redirecting into other file.

split -l 10 filename
