The following script throws error when executing. I am not able to understand what is the error.

If I execute as single command it works fine and Process ID displays.
ps -ef |grep startNodeManager | grep -v grep |awk '{ print $2 }'

But when execute as a script it throws following error.
bash-2.03$ ./stopNodeMan.sh
awk: syntax error near line 1
awk: bailing out near line 1

I am using SunOS 5.8.

cpid=`ps -ef |grep $ppid |grep -v grep|awk -v _pid=$ppid '$3 == _pid {print $2}'`
if [ "x$cpid" != "x" ]
then
execStr="kill -9 $cpid $ppid"
echo $execStr
#$execStr
else
echo "Node Manager instance is already down"
fi
else
echo "Node Manager instance is already down"
fi

Can anybody let me know what is the mistake?

The problem is with the below line...

cpid=`ps -ef |grep $ppid |grep -v grep|awk -v _pid=$ppid '$3 == _pid {print $2}'`

just change the awk to nawk, it will work..
I think it is better to use nawk as default as it has more funcationalities...
