Need help in command

Hi,

I want to search delimiter in a flat file and print that the delimiter in console.

client will send files with pipe or tab or semicolon or comma delimited files. I want to read the file and print the delimiter.

could you please help me the command in unix/perl.

is this flat file having fixed format.
I mean column width is fixed for 1st coloumn?

No, It is not a fixed length format. suppose e.g. client will send files like below.

pipe format file :

Code:
1223|raj@gmail.com|12-sep-1984

comma format file :

Code:
1223,raj@gmail.com,12-sep-1984

tab format file :

Code:
1223     raj@gamil.com     12-sep-1984

So you know delimiter is one from comma, tab, semicolon or pipe? and you want to print?

If that's not what you need, please elaborate.

Is there anything fixed based on which one could analyze the file (field count, ...)
