Create file with name first column name.

Hi please help me in resolving the scenario.

Source File:
Code:
col1 col3
----- -----
file1 data1
file2 data2
file1 data3
file3 data4
file5 data5
..
...
.... and so on.

Result should be:4 files created.

first file, file1.txt (no need to worry about .txt extension) will contain data1 and then data3 content appended to it.

file2.txt should contain data2

file3.txt should contain data4

file5.txt should contain data5

Requirement: for each value in the first column a file should be created and corresponding data should be inserted into the file. If file is already existed the data should be appended.

Thanks in advance, any quick reply would be appreciated.

Try:
Code:
awk 'NR>2{print $2>>$1}' file

If there are many different files in the first column then a close statement will need to be used to limit the number of open files
