Bash help

Code:
$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

when logging in we are setting environment using .sh script

Code:
#!/bin/bash
PERL=/opt/10gperl/perl-5.8.8/bin/perl; export PERL

later if we want to change the PERL to diff home , using .sh script ..

Code:
#!/bin/bash
PERL=/opt/11gperl/perl-5.8.8/bin/perl; export PERL

it's not giving any error , but, not changing the PERL too.

how to fix this ? any ideas .....

Before you change it, unset it:
Code:
unset PERL
PERL=/opt/11gperl/perl-5.8.8/bin/perl; export PERL

This shouldn't make any difference at all.

If you are calling a shell script to set PERL, anything you do to PERL in that script will be lost when that script returns to your shell. You need to change the setting of PERL in your current shell execution environment. So, if the script that is setting PERL is named setPERL.sh, you can't invoke it using:
Code:
setPERL.sh
    or
bash setPERL.sh
    or
./setPERL.sh

because all of the above method create a separate shell execution environments. The following should work for you:
Code:
. setPERL.sh

because the dot command reads the commands from the file named by its operand and runs them in the current shell execution environment.
