I used
at the begining of the script.I am having many read statements in my prog.
So once the timeout occurs i get into next read statement if 30 secs over then coming to next read statement.
But my requirement is i need to come out of the entire script(i.e come to command line) once the timeout occurs
if timeout happens i need to echo message saying "Your session timed out"
Any idea is appreciated.Thanks guys.
Hi ,
Thanks for your response .
I am new to this kind of function.
I saw the fork command, could u pls say how could i use in my problem.
Bcz as i see its used along with C.
Every time anything runs a program, that's a fork call. It takes two steps:
1) fork. This creates a new independent process, still running the same program as the original. (With one value different, so the copy can tell that it's a copy.)
2) exec. The copy replaces itself with a new program.
So he's just telling you to run a program in background.
Hi Guys,
Is there a way to recover a lost session? I was working in a server and that lost the connection, now, I have a new session but all the previous processes that I was running, like scripts, etc, are still running.
Is there a way to bring them to my session?
Best regards,
Marco. (4 Replies)

Besides 'who am i' and 'tty' what commands could be used to determine if a session is interactive as compared to a web process or cron process. Any command should work with the common unix variants. (3 Replies)
Our network administrators implemented some sort of check to kill idle sessions and now burden is on us to run some sort of keep alive. Client based keep alive doesn't do a very good job. I have same issue with ssh. Does solution 2 provided above apply for ssh sessions also? (1 Reply)

Hi,
Apologies if anyone has read my recent post on the same subject in the Linux forum, just thought actually the solution might more likely come from scripting.
