uuencode

hi all,

I dont know of this is a duplicate thread, but the thread i started a while ago wasnot posted still. ok my question is i have a shell script named "mail_editck.sh". i have to include some reports in it so that i can get the email when they are done. the syntax goes like this.

$(ux2dos filepath | uuencode $EDIT_FILE1)

this is an already existing script. and i added some more reports to it with the file names EDIT_FILE2, EDIT_FILE3, ETC...
now my question is it compulsory that we define $EDIT_FILE1 variable somewhere in .profile file or is it just and input to the email.i have gone throught man pages of uuencode but of no use.

can any one help me...

You syntax looks wrong: ux2dos edits the file in place and does not produce standard output. Therefore you cannot pipe the result into uuencode. Also, uuencode writes to standard output so you should capture or redirect.

I think you want to do this:

ux2dos filepath
uuencode NiceNameOfFile < filepath | mailx -s "Here is a Nice File" recipient@example.com
