How to Compress files before moving them in a directory
I need a shell script that zips a file before moving them..please help

Try this:

for i in `cat filelist.txt`
do
gzip $i
mv $i".gz" $destination
done

The same thing without the UUOC and in ksh

Code:
for i in $(< filelist.txt)
do
gzip $i
mv $i".gz" $destination
done

Wont this work as well?

gzip -c $i > $destination/$i.gz
rm $i
done
