Sorting mixed numbers and letters
Hello,

I have a file such as this:
Code:
chr1
chr2
chr1
chr2
chr3
chr10
chr4
chr5
chrz
chr1A

I want to sort it, I use this command:
Code:
sort -k1 -th -n testfile

but I get this output, how can I fix this?
Code:
chr1
chr1
chr10
chr1A
chr2
chr2
chr3
chr4
chr5
chrz

10 comes after 1 which is not correct, I want the chrz to be the last.

So what is the desired output...because you can sort either numerically or lexically but you cannot expect to mix both of them so post the output desired...

Or add leading zeros.
