Hammer & Screwdriver Fetch the lines which contains special characters

Hi All,

My source file contains special characters(Latin characters).I need to fetch only the lines which contains the special characters. The problem is i don't know which all latin/special characters can come in the source.

Is there anyway to extract the lines which contain letters other than the valid characters(a-z,A-Z,0...9)

Please help me out in this.

Thanks in advance

If you have perl you can use below

Code:

perl -nle 'print if m{^[[:ascii:]]+$}' inputfile

Code:
grep -v "[[:alnum:]]" infile > newfile

If you want to reverse that, remove the -v.

If you want to edit the file in place, you can check if your sed supports -i:
Code:
sed -i '/[[:alnum:]]/d' infile

d stands for delete in this case. If you want to reverse it, use !d.
