FTP Query

Hi,

I have to migrate the scripts from source(HP UX) to destination(Linux) some files. While ftp and downloading the files, the permissions of the files are changing. Is there any option in ftp to get the file in exact permissions.

I believe we can achieve it by using tar, however i am working on ftp to transfer due to some restrictions

Thanks, Nagesh

Surely unless both the HP-UX and Linux boxes have the exact same UID's and GID's for users and groups transfering permissions will be futile.

Or are you just talking about the protection masks? If so, given UID's and GID's will bwe different (I assume), what are you trying to achieve here?

Hi Hicksd8,

In source the file has permissions of 777 , after transferring to destination the permission is 744. I need the same permission 777 in destination too

Thanks

Do you want all files transfered to be 777 at the destination? If so, you can change the default to that in /etc/inetd.conf

If you do that you'll need to restart the inetd service to take effect.
