Where is the problem? Gather all greps into a single command or the redirection to a file or add the number of hits into a single value or feed grep a file as input or ... ?

Code:
grep -cf input.txt file.txt > output.txt

?

sorry guys.let me explain my requirement better.

input.txt is a million keywords
Code:
keyword1
keyword2
.
.
.
.

i want a grep -c "keyword1" file.txt for all keywords in input.txt and save 'number of occurences of each keyword in the file'

so output.txt will be
Code:
keyword1 334
keyword 3342
keyword 6644

Hey!!!

You have to find the occurence of keyword which is whole line then,

Try this,

Code:
sort input.txt|uniq -c

Just try with the above, May I know the ouput?

If you need exact suggestions, We need some sample lines of your real input file instead of mocked up.

thanks.
i dont want to sort the input.txt file.

samples files are below

input.txt is
Code:
aaa
bbb

file.txt is
Code:
aaa
aaa343343
bbb

i want to perform a grep -c command for each keyword in input.txt and save the resuts of grep in output.txt
Code:
grep -c "aaa" file.txt
grep -c "bbb" file.txt

output.txt is
Code:
aaa 2[means how many lines matches the given keyword 'aaa' in file.txt]
bbb 1

i can do this manually but the files have million keywords each.

sorry about this confusion guys.
hope you can help
