Print at same line

Hello

I am trying to write a shell script. I want the script to repeat at the same line e.g. 12 times the word "foo".

like
Code:
foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo

so i would like to input the program how many times i want this word to be repeated.

Is it possible?

(I am new to this!!!)

You can try this

Code:
echo "foo" | awk '{for(i=1;i<=12;i++)printf "%s\t", $1; printf "\n"}'

resulting

Code:
foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo foo

Why use an external program. With bash/ksh93:
Code:
n=12; for (( i=1; i<=n; i++ )); do printf "%s " "foo"; done; echo

Code:
n=12
for (( i=1; i<=n; i++ ));do
  printf "%s " "foo"
done
echo

or any POSIX shell (including bash/ksh93):
Code:
n=12 i=$n
while [ $((i-=1)) -ge 0 ]; do
  printf "%s " "foo"
done
echo

Or use printf alone:
Code:
printf "foo%.0s " {1..12}; printf "\n"

Reading from a file:
Code:
n=12
while read line; do
        printf "${line}%.0s " $(seq 1 $n); printf "\n"
done < file

Best wishes ... cheers, drl
