compare date

hi friends Smilie ,
I am finding a small difficulty to compare two date & echo comparision results.
The dates are in format 2005/05/31 (yyyy/mm/dd). can we do it using awk command ? How. Although i searched the forum for the key word "compare date" but i could not get the desired so i am posting it.
Please help me out.

Hi friend,
Surely I have checked the datecalc. It can perform almost all date calculations but I think it does not provide solution to date comparison. Hoping a AWK solution to problem.

What is date comparison for you ?

Do you mean the number of days between two given dates or something else...

Is it a homework problem ?

Good Try but it gives syntax error at line 1.

three dates comparision

can any one tell me how this can be modified to compare three dates at a time

echo 2005/02/31 2005/02/02 | awk '$2<$1{print -1;next}{print ($2>$1)}'
