[Solved] Password query even after adding public key
Dears

I am running a shell script to backup (transfer) files to a networked External HDD. Even though the public key has been added it still asks for the password before starting the transfer.

Any suggestions?

Could be bad permissions on files or subdirectories ( e.g. .ssh )

The file permission seems fine. it has got the read write and execute permissions.

Your home should be 755, .ssh: 700, id_dsa:600 etc...

But first thing: Can you ssh without password?, before adding your script issue...

ssh doesnt work without password...

actually i am using rsync with ssh....

Can you confirm the key is added into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys of the remote server.
