I am using a unix shell script to create and then FTP the file to a mainframe application.

The unix script uses spool to extract data from a Oracle database. The data is extracted into a text file.

The text file is having all the data I need but not in the correct format. The rows of extracted data are coming up in a single line in the file seperated by a strangle inverted rectangle.

This is a formatting issue but has nothing to do with SQL. How can I handle this in Unix and have the data come up in multiple lines.

When I extract into CSV, the file comes with data in correct format. But when I open in text the file is in bad format

Sounds like you are trying to read unix formatted files on Windows.

Try the unix2dos command to convert the files.

edit: FTP also offers a "text" mode that guesses what you want and translates text files as they are copied, however I've never been a fan of this feature of FTP and feel you are better of using unix tools to convert the file before sending it.
