Compare files
Hi,

I have a req which has two files comparing the first col in one file and last column in second file and write the results to an output file . How would I do this with awk command. Please help me out with this . I appreciate it.

What exactly do you want to compare?

1. Equal
2. Greater than
3. Lesser than

Please be more specific, sample data in code tags will be good.

Added to this, whats the delimiter of the file and whether the coulmns are sorted etc.
Simple solution is to provide us your sample data in both files...

I wanted to do equal to both the files with how many records are there in two files and how many records in file 1 but not in file 2 and how many records in file 2 but not in file 1 . delimited for file 1 is , and file 2 is | . I appreciate your help

Please do not leave people guessing. Show a representative sample of input, desired output, attempts at a solution and specify what OS and versions being used, or this thread will be closed.

I have the two files as

File1.txt
Code:
Col1 Col2
1      aa
2      bb
3      dd
4      ee
5      ff

File2.txt
Code:
col1 col2 col3
11    aa   1
12    bb   3
13    cc   4

I have to compare Col1 in file 1 to col3 in file2.txt and print the output as below:

1. values that found in both files.

2. Values found in file1 not in file 2

3. Values found in file2 not in file 1

Note: File 1 has two columns where as file 2 has 3 three columns .

Plz help me out how to do this. I really appreciate your help.
